In partnership with Mercy Center at Madison, EcoWorks, Inc. will be creating a Compost Labyrinth on the New Haven Green – as part of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas.

We’ll be constructing the labyrinth from finished compoOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAst on Thursday afternoon, June 26. It will take about 2 hours to create. We will have a short ‘opening ceremony’ at 7pm and then walk it together, with whoever joins us.  It will be open for anyone to walk whenever they’d like until it is is absorbed in the Earth, perhaps after a few rains.

A labyrinth is an ancient design, which allows for meditative and mindful walks.  Walking the labyrinth puts us in touch with our bodies, our inner world, with nature and our community. Unlike a maze, the labyrinth has only one path in and one path out, so there are no tricks to it and no dead ends. The winding path, and those we encounter on that path, become a metaphor for the twists and turns of our lives.  Children are especially drawn to it and walk, run and dance to the center!

Guided walks will include a short description and history of labyrinths, the ways in which labyrinths promote peace within ourselves and among our communities and where to find permanent labyrinths in our area.

Facilitated Walk Schedule:

Thursday, June 26: 7:00pm – Opening Walk

Friday, June 27: 12noon, 6:30pm

Saturday, June 28: 10am, 12noon, 6:30pm

Sunday, June 29: 12noon
