EcoWorks Art-Caching: Collaborative Art Treasure Hunting
Ongoing from May 8th through Arts and Ideas Festivals
EcoWorks has hidden 14 art-caches around the city of New Haven and invites everyone to seek them and engage by re-creating the art piece found within. Use a GPS unit or app on your smart phone to go treasure hunting, then post before and after pictures on social media using #EcoWorksArtCache. For GPS coordinates to start hunting for your first art-cache, please visit http://www.ecoworksct.org/artcache2017. Participation is free.
International Festival of Arts and Ideas PopUp Festivals
We’ll be providing creative reuse activities at each of the community festivals this year.

Shadow Puppet Play
Saturday, June 3, 2-7pm
Create your very own shadow world with interactive puppets or window scenes made from cut paper & glue, ( and sticks of bamboo!)

Bottle Cap Bugs
Sunday, June 4, 2-6pm
EcoWorks loves to recycle, reuse, and re-purpose, so join us at this Arts and Ideas Pop Up event as we take plastic bottle caps, beads, fake flowers, and other “junk” to create fantastical critters. Let your imagination run wild as you create spiders, insects, beetles, and creepy crawlies, all from recycled materials.

Weaving in the Round
Saturday, June 10, 1-5pm
Learn to Weave in the Round using rag yarn, string, cord, blue wrap & t-shirts on sewing hoops to make your own fabric frisbee. We will even use small hula hoops for loom frames. Larger hoops made from irrigation tubing will serve as our targets for an ongoing game of floppy fabric frisbee golf.

EcoWorks is holding a 2 day Quilter’s Bonanza! We have new, high quality quilting fabrics already cut into squares and strips ready for sewing. Yardage/larger pieces are also available. Join us and be inspired, see what is new, and start quilting!
Art Cards to Congress
Saturday July 1st 1-3pm
Art and Activism! Join us for this free community event where we will collage, draw, and design art cards pre addressed to our state representatives showing our support for the Arts and the environment. Post cards provided by the New Haven Arts Council. Make a difference making art!
Build Your Own Air Plant Holder
Saturday July 15th 1-3pm
Students will learn how to make a pinch pot and use recycled materials to imprint texture and design. This pinch pot, using air dry clay, will make the perfect container for an air plant.
$18 per person
Epiphytes/air plants are included in the class fee and one will be provided.

Up-cycled Mandala Sun Catchers
Sunday July 30th 1-3pm
Using a donation of clear drum heads EcoWorks received, Stephanie Lush will lead us in an amazing workshop creating up-cycled Mandala Sun Catchers on these alternative canvases. Using translucent paints, markers, glue, ephemera, and an array of embellishments, learn to create a hanging window design using all recycled and re-purposed materials. All supplies provided and great for all ages.

Up-cycled Beaded Necklaces with Amy Bowers

Learn how to make beads from paper ephemera. These beads are easy, relaxing and can be turned into great gifts for friends, family or yourself. Let’s roll, glue and string with this up-cycling project!

Students will learn how to roll out clay and use recycled materials to imprint texture and design. Bring your own beverage and learn to build 2 unique and one of a kind coasters!
